Taxes, Returns & Refunds Policy
Taxes, Returns & Refunds for Physical Products only, not Online Courses
KINDNESS
If you are looking to buy from us, we ask that you first read these terms.
In all cases we aim to act with kindness, and ask you return this favour.
If you are here it is because you also believe in saving great fabric for reuse. That said, we do ask that you consider carefully your purchase. This is a distance sale and in a large part based on the good faith of both parties.
We have done our best to ensure the images and descriptions match the product. Personal interpretation is something we have no control over.
If, for any reason, you are unsure, please ask us first. If you are still unsure, we recommend you do not buy.
As always, in all cases, if there is an issue, please reach out to us, preferably via email at info@arkdefo.com and allow us to find an amicable solution to any concerns you may have.
Nothing leaves our studio without rigorous quality checking procedures to ensure high quality. Customer satisfaction is important to us.
We would also point you in the direction of our Google & Trustpilot reviews.
DAMAGE & DEADSTOCK
We sell deadstock fabrics. It is factory surplus that may include minor defects, such as tiny holes, thread pulls or factory edge damage.
We do our best to ensure no damage. We try to keep any potential damage to the perimeter of the fabric to maintain the usable area, but pattern piece placements can usually be adjusted.
Any larger damage would be considered a “remnant” cut and sold as such.
By agreeing to our terms, you have made yourself aware of this point and that deadstock fabrics can include minor defects.
If the return is based on damage, we will review our records to cross reference. We reserve the right to reduce the refund if the images do not match and the item is no longer in its original “sold” state.
COLOUR VARIANCE
The screen image is representative of the fabric colour, captured under studio light conditions. Colour corrections are undertaken to each image to better reflect the fabric colour in natural light, but there may still be minor differences between the published image and the physical object.
Colour variance will not be accepted as an “incorrect term” for the purposes of returns or refunds.
If this makes you uncomfortable we do suggest you reconsider your purchase before placing an order.

SHIPPING POLICY FOR PHYSICAL PRODUCTS
At the moment, as of October 2025, our shipping of physical products will be the the EU and the UK only.
We continue to assess other markets and will add them when we are in a position to do so.
VAT POLICY FOR THE EU AND THE UK
Generally, VAT will be charged on fabric sales.
SALES TO THE EU
VAT will be applied on sales to other EU countries, unless the buyer is a VAT-registered business (B2B), providing a valid VAT number. In that case, the sale is usually zero-rated for VAT in Portugal and the buyer accounts for VAT locally via the reverse charge mechanism.
For sales to non-VAT registered customers (B2C), Portuguese VAT is charged at point of sale.
SALES TO THE UK
Since January 2020, shipments to the UK are treated as exports and Portuguese VAT will not be applied, but the UK customer accounts for import VAT and any customs duties. These would be paid at the UK border before the shipment is released to you.
UK import VAT will apply.
As of October 2025 this is a standard 20% rate. This would be based on the total value of the shipment, including the product, shipping and any customs charge.
CUSTOMS CHARGE POLICY FOR EU AND UK
SALES TO THE EU
There are currently no customs duties on products shipped from Portugal to other EU member states, as it is considered internal trade within a Single Market.
VAT rules will apply. Refer to terms above.
SALES TO THE UK
For shipments to the UK, there is currently a customs duty exemption on goods below £135 (approx €150).
Above £135 the shipment may attract customs duties, calculated on the product type, origin and value.
