FOUNDERS OF ARKDEFO: ANDREW & ELIZAVETA BENNETT
We want you to fall in love with your body
Elizaveta: “I know first-hand how it feels to have a “weird body shape” (also known as, being a woman). I have different sizes for top and bottom. Ready-made clothes don’t fit me.” You are probably in a similar situation: your body doesn't fit the store sizes. Good news: it's not you, it's them!
That's how our online school was born
Clothes should fit you, not the other way around. We wanted to create an alternative to lengthy & expensive uni course. You don't need a degree to learn how to work with your measurements and make everyday clothes. You need us ;) Instead of selling you ready made patterns that (surprise!) won't fit you, we teach HOW to make these patterns based on YOUR body. And we made it simple. Short lessons to avoid boredom and fit into a busy schedule of a modern woman.
While teaching we were creating
One simple question kept us awake: if brands continue making new garments, who is dealing with existing old ones? Fast forward two years and we are collecting old jeans from people in Edinburgh and Glasgow with #donatedenim campaign. We developed our signature patchwork techniques and built a truly zero-waste process. We made anything from coats to zip purses & door stoppers (stuffed with denim, of course). We hope this inspires you to try rework your old clothes as well.
We were on the cover on Living mag, interviewed by BBC Radio Scotland, Glasgow West End News, published in The Herald, Scotsman, Luxury issue of Scottish Field magazine and became the go-to denim collectors. We have this venture on pause for now (you can read about it here) but there’s an even more exciting one.
Halley Stevensons, Scottish waxed cotton manufacturers, approached us with a very exciting question: would we be interested in collecting their deadstock fabric? It was an instant YES! We saw it as a great opportunity to give independent makers, like yourself, access to small quantities of high quality waxed cotton fabric. Being water resistant, it makes fantastic bags (have you seen our Shopper yet?) and outerwear.
The big dream?
We want to bring back the emotional connection between people and clothing. Fashion is a decision that you make every single morning. What story are you telling today? Make it a good one: feel great in your clothes and your body.Start your journey today
