WORKERS CONDITIONS & PAY

All our items are “Made in Glasgow” and we take great pride in having a close working relationship with our makers. This is slow fashion. We want care and attention paid to every item, to ensure the highest levels of quality are achieved. The current Living Wage in Glasgow is £9.50/hr* and our makers are paid well above that level. ( * figure in Glasgow, April 2021)

By supporting our business, you are helping to support good working conditions.

PRICE STRUCTURE

Our prices reflect a fair and reasonable level of pay to all those involved. Every item is handmade, with due care and attention paid to every detail and we ensure that our makers receive a salary above the Living Wage.

In fact, as business owners and to cover our living costs, we will be earning a comparable salary to our makers!

LOCAL MANUFACTURING PARTNER

We wanted to work with a manufacturer who shared our values and we have that with Beyonder Involve Ltd. As our partner, Beyonder ensure all workers are paid fairly, their working conditions are good and that everyone is treated with respect.

Beyonder carries out community interest projects and you can find out more about their work on the link provided.

WORKING HOURS

It is important to know that workers are being treated well. All our makers are contracted for a 7.5 hour max. working day and a 5 day max. working week, which means a max. 150 hours a month to be carried out on our items. There is no overworking, no exploitation, no working without pay. Fairness wins here.

By supporting our business, you are helping to support fair pay.

WHERE DO THE PROFITS GO?

We do, firstly, ensure everyone is paid. Whatever is leftover (after HMRC) is put back into the business to grow towards our long term goals. We will continue to develop our upcycled collections, save new materials from landfill and find ways to keep that good material in the system. Natural growth allows us to employ more makers, creating jobs. Beyond that, we want to develop a recycling system, one that currently does not exist in this country.

By supporting our business, you are giving us the opportunity to make this a reality!

YOU HELP REDUCE WATER, CHEMICALS & CO2

By choosing to purchase a new upcycled denim creation you are helping to offset the consumption of newly created garments. Cotton requires a lot of water to produce the crops and uses a lot of harmful chemicals and dyes in the manufacturing process.

Approximately 77% of water and 63% energy is used in the pre & post consumer phase, so by supporting our upcycling project you are saving 77% of 6,326 litres of water and 63% of 33.4kg CO2 eq required for EVERY PAIR OF JEANS newly produced.

By supporting our business, you are helping to reduce further environmental damage.

YOU HELP REDUCE LANDFILL The original denim garments may have been imported, but we are determined to limit what would be exported as landfill, through normal (existing) textile collection routes. All kind donations reduce the likelihood of new landfill.

We are not suggesting you stop donating to Charity Shops, but instead that any donations are first examined - is it dirty? is it stained? do they have holes? If the answer to ANY of these questions is “YES” then a charity will not sell them.

By supporting our business, you are helping to reduce landfill here and also overseas.
